Alumnus of the Year Award
The Alumnus of the Year Award, established in 1965, honors the superior achievements of UCLA engineering alumni who have brought honor and distinction to the School. The hallmark of each recipient is a sterling record of distinguished career accomplishments, complemented by a history of outstanding contributions to the engineering profession. The committee shall be alert to qualified men or women who serve as role models to newcomers to the profession, who contribute to the profession through its organizational activities, or who have provided notable service to the community, and preferably, those who have made contributions to enhance the School. Without exception, awardees have established new standards of excellence to which others in their fields may aspire.


Professional Achievement Award
The Professional Achievement Award acknowledges the superior achievements of UCLA engineering alumni in their chosen fields of endeavor. The selection committee will consider each nominee’s career accomplishments, contributions to their profession, and ways in which they have advanced their field through the mentoring/education of others and contributions to professional organizations. Awardees will be those who have set new standards of excellence in their careers to which others may aspire.


Alumni Achievement in Academia Award
The Alumni Achievement in Academia Award honors UCLA engineering alumni who are full-time faculty members in engineering, either at UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science or another university, and who have excelled in their fields as researchers and educators.


This award is bestowed at the discretion of the Awards Committee. Alumni who have previously received any other UCLA Engineering award may not be nominated for this award.

Distinguished Young Alumnus Award
The Distinguished Young Alumnus Award recognizes outstanding alumni who have graduated during the last decade. The selection committee will consider the nominee’s career accomplishments, contributions to his or her profession, excellence in research and education, and/or service to the School.


Lifetime Contribution Award
The Lifetime Contribution Award honors an alumnus or friend of the School who has made significant contributions to the field of engineering and the School over the course of his or her lifetime.

This award is bestowed at the discretion of the Awards Committee.


Engineering Alumni Association Service Award
The Engineering Alumni Association Service Award recognizes those alumni or friends who have given of themselves in support of the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science or the community at large. Candidates should have records of generously contributing their time and their talents for the enrichment of others in a manner that benefits or brings honor to the School. A candidate’s direct contributions to the School might include serving as a guest lecturer, participation in UCLA engineering programs or assisting the School in making contact with industry representatives or prominent alumni.

The impact and unselfishness of a candidate's contributions will receive considerable weight. If a candidate is employed by UCLA or in a community service-related profession, the individual must have an extraordinary record of service and volunteerism well beyond the job description of the position held.

NOTE: Student candidates are not eligible to receive this award.


Industry Award
The Industry Award recognizes a company that has cultivated an exceptional relationship with the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. The awards committee shall consider all areas of possible involvement with the School in making their selection, such as recruitment of UCLA engineering students, advancement of research and educational curricula, support for student projects or organizations, internship opportunities, financial and equipment contributions to the School, etc.


The Edward K. Rice Student Awards
Nomination packets for the Edward K. Rice Student Awards should include at least two letters of recommendation, including one from a faculty advisor or engineering faculty member. Recipients of the Edward K. Rice Student Awards must be present at the Engineering Awards Dinner to accept the award and the monetary prize of $1,000.

Outstanding Undergraduate Student
The Edward K. Rice Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award honors the achievements of a distinguished undergraduate student in the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic excellence, leadership, creativity, research within their academic department and outstanding service to the School, University or community.


Outstanding Master's Student
The Edward K. Rice Outstanding Master’s Student Award honors the achievements of a distinguished master’s student in the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. The recipient will be selected on the basis of their academic excellence, research contributions and service to the School, University or community.


Outstanding Doctoral Student
The Edward K. Rice Outstanding Doctoral Student Award honors the achievements of a distinguished doctoral student in the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. The recipient will be selected on the basis of their academic excellence, research contributions and service to the School, University or community.

Eligibility
Alumnus of the Year, Professional Achievement, Alumni in Academia and Distinguished Young Alumnus award nominees must be graduates of the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, who possess one or more of the following degrees: Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Master of Engineering, Engineer, or Ph.D.
