There are numerous opportunities for members of
industry to partner with the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering
and Applied Science on collaborative activities that benefit both
the company and the School. Gifts from corporations and foundations
help sustain the School’s reputation for excellence in research
and education, and have a direct impact on our students, faculty
and programs.
The Office
of External Affairs can help identify partnership opportunities
and facilitate communication between industry and UCLA Engineering’s
faculty and students.
Support for Students
Scholarships and Fellowships
To meet the growing demand for highly trained engineers, the School
must continue to attract and retrain the brightest, most creative
students worldwide. Generous student aid packages, including current-use
and endowed scholarships and fellowships, allow the School to
successfully compete with other universities for extraordinary
students.
Internships
Corporate internships help our students cover the costs of their
education while gaining valuable industry experience.
Student Projects
Corporations can lend their support to student projects such as
the ASCE’s Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge, IEEE's Micro
Mouse, ASME’s Mini Baja, AIAA’s Hybrid Rocket, and
many others. The competitions offer students the opportunity to
gain hands-on experience, develop their leadership skills and
manage a project from start to finish.
Support for Faculty
Gifts from industry help strengthen the overall quality of the
School’s teaching and research programs through support
for faculty research, teaching awards and endowed chairs. Endowed
chairs are critical for attracting diverse, gifted faculty in
an increasingly competitive marketplace, and allow the company
that funds a chair to link their name with exceptional scholarship
and research.
Research Support
Advanced university research serves as a catalyst for technological
innovations and applications that will improve the quality of
our lives. The rich resources of industry expand the possibilities
for directed research and enable swift strides to be made in the
world of engineering. Partnerships between industry and academia
move technology out of the labs and into our lives.
Programmatic Support
Gifts from industry fund curriculum development for new courses,
and help maintain the School’s advanced laboratories and
classrooms. Gifts-in-kind help ensure that our students and faculty
are learning and conducting experiments with up-to-date devices
and machinery.
Support for Outreach
Through the Center for Excellence in Engineering and Diversity
(CEED), the School conducts a variety of student enrichment programs
for both pre-college and college students. CEED enjoys strong
and widespread support from our industrial partners, who sponsor
events on campus, academic workshops and other activities designed
to better prepare students for careers in engineering, math and
the sciences. |
