Sailesh Rao
Executive Director, Climate Healers, Inc.

Abstract
While climate change is a symptom, the fever that our Earth has contracted, the underlying disease is the consumer culture of our global industrial civilization. Using insights from climate science, paleo-climatology and systems theory, the speaker will underscore the urgency of action to avert rapid climate change and propose simple, yet effective steps that each of us can take right now to minimize the probability of such rapid change.

Biography
Sailesh Rao is the Executive Director of the US 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, Climate Healers. An Electrical Engineer by training with a Ph.D., from Stanford University in 1986, Sailesh had a 20 year career in high-speed signal processing and communications systems architecture. Notably, he developed the world's first real-time MPEG encoder chip in 1991 and the Gigabit Ethernet on Copper standard in 1996, which is the workhorse of the internet infrastructure even today. In 2006, Sailesh switched careers and became deeply immersed in the various environmental crises facing humanity after some life changing events and after he watched Vice President Al Gore’s slide show on TV. He is the author of the 2011 book, "Carbon Dharma: The Occupation of Butterflies" and the forthcoming follow-up book, "Carbon Karma: The Occupation of Bees".
