Broadcom

Why does Broadcom choose to recruit engineering and computer science graduates from UCLA?
UCLA has one of the top engineering schools in the country and the graduates are very talented at all levels (BS, MS, and PhD). The proximity to Broadcom is also a big plus for our internship and full-time programs since there are fewer relocation issues. The founders of Broadcom are both UCLA graduates - undergrad through doctorate - so they obviously have a bias toward the school.

What do you see as the strengths of UCLA’s graduates in engineering and computer science?
UCLA engineering school graduates are very bright and are very well trained in the fundamentals. The graduate program in integrated circuit design is as good as any in the country.

How do employees who are UCLA alumni compare to your other employees?
Some of the very best engineers at Broadcom are UCLA alumni. UCLA ranks number one in terms of number of university alumni employed by Broadcom.

Several UCLA engineering graduates are in leadership positions at Broadcom - what qualities do they share that make them suited for such roles?
First and foremost, they are brilliant engineers. However, they also have demonstrated very strong leadership skills which have allowed them to quickly move up the ranks into management positions. We have approximately 10-12 UCLA engineering alumni in leadership roles at Broadcom Corporation.

How many graduates from UCLA’s Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science currently work at Broadcom?
We have approximately 153 UCLA engineering graduates working at Broadcom.

What types of positions have these graduates been hired to fill?
All sorts of positions, both full-time and intern, including analog and digital integrated circuit design, RF design, digital signal processing, communications systems analysis and design, software engineers, CMOS device and process engineering and test engineers. We currently have over 75 full-time positions open for recent or upcoming graduates at all levels (BS, MS, PhD), as well as numerous internship opportunities.

What other aspects of Broadcom’s relationship with the University are important to the company?
Broadcom maintains a close research relationship with the university and funds several research projects with faculty and graduate students in the Electrical Engineering Department through the UC MICRO program. Broadcom also maintains an active internship program to employ students prior to their graduation to give them some hands-on training and industry experience. We are actively recruiting for over 50 intern opportunities, with more to come. The University Relations Program is also actively involved with several student associations and organizations on-campus that focus on engineering, technology and diversity. Broadcom is also a Corporate Partner with the UCLA Career Services Center, and a member of the Electrical Engineering Industrial Affiliates Program.
