Students Showcase Projects, Outreach Efforts at Annual Reception
Annual design competitions. Local K-12 outreach programs. Symposia, lectures and workshops. These engineering student activities – and others – rely on support from alumni to achieve their goals.
In May, a number of engineering students groups showcased their projects and competition results for interested alumni and faculty. Among this year’s groups were the ASCE Concrete Canoe, which placed third at the regional competition; the Association for Computing Machinery, which extended the capabilities of CourseWeb with a range of interactive features; the Society of Automotive Engineers’ MiniBaja team, which competed in June; and the Society of Women Engineers and Pilipinos in Engineering, who shared information about outreach and support efforts.
Established in 1995, the endowed Alumni Fund for Student Projects supports a wide range of engineering student organization activities. This year, the alumni committee allocated nearly $13,000 to a wide range of engineering student organizations.
More than 1,150 students benefited from programs and activities partially supported by the fund this year. The generosity of our alumni and friends has an impact on campus and off through events designed to raise interest, awareness, and understanding of engineering disciplines.
If you would like more information on how to support engineering student groups, please call 310.206.0678 or you can make a gift to the fund online at https://giving.ucla.edu/HSSEAS/donate.asp.
