John Brooks Slaughter MS ’61, president and chief executive officer of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering Inc. delivered the K-State College of Engineering Eyestone Lecture “Engineers for Tomorrow: An Imperative for America.”

Lawrence J. Fogel PhD ’64, president of Natural Selection, Inc. in La Jolla, California, became the first recipient of the IEEE Frank Rosenblatt Technical Field Award in July.

Melvin L. Riley BS ’65 was a candidate for the Zachary City (Louisiana) Council from District 5 in the September 30 primary election.

David Nagel BS ’66, MS ’68 has been appointed to the board of directors for Epocrates Inc., provider of mobile and online clinical applications for healthcare professionals.

Donald J. Marshall ME ’67 received the 2006 Martin F. Stein Volunteer Excellence Award from the Citizens Development Corps in Washington, D.C. on July 21.

J. Gerry Purdy MS ’68 has been appointed vice president and chief analyst, mobile and wireless at Frost & Sullivan.

Ron Sugar BS ’68, MS ’69, PhD ’71 received honorary membership in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in 2006.

Asad M. Madni BS ’69, MS ’72 was elected a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers and was also the recipient of the “2006 Lifetime Achievement Award” from the World Automation Congress.


1970s
Richard Little BS ’70 has joined DATAllegro as chief financial officer.

Gabe Moretti MS ’72 is the site editor for EDA DesignLine whose website was launched by CMP Media’s EE Times in August.

Robert P. Stearns ME ’70 has retired from SCS Engineers, a company which he co-founded.

Stephen M. Fry MS ’73, PhD ’76 has joined BioMedical Innovations Management as managing partner.

Badar Baqai MS ’75 has been appointed vice president engineering of IP Products and Solutions at LSI Logic Corporation.

Henry Samueli BS ’75, MS ’76, PhD ’80, co-founder of Broadcom Corporation, was named one of the “most powerful people in Southern California” by The Los Angeles Times. He was ranked seventh and was the youngest person in the top 10.

Bahram Ghaderi MS ’78, Eng ’80, PhD ’81 has been promoted to vice president of engineering and product development at EXAR Corporation.

Joanne M. Maguire MS ’78 was named executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Space Systems and will be responsible for all business operations and activities of the corporation’s $7 billion unit.


1980s
Henry T. Nicholas III BS ’82, MS ’85, PhD ’98, co-founder of Broadcom Corporation, was named one of the “most powerful people in Southern California” by The Los Angeles Times.

Brian P. Wong BS ’83 has been appointed as president and CEO of D2Audio Inc., an audio semiconductor company headquartered in Austin,TX.

Eitan Zeira BS ’83, MS ’84, founder of Polysun, Inc., has joined Konarka Technologies, Inc. as director of organic electronic printing technology.

Levent Ozcolak MS ’85 has been promoted to vice president of marketing for interface products for EXAR Corporation.

Ruth Fragoso BS ’87 and Jaime Waydo MS ’05 served as keynote speakers at the College of the Canyons’ Women’s Leadership Conference in April 2006.

Lloyd K. Snyder BS ’88 has been promoted to vice president and senior product manager of the food and beverage division at Woodard & Curran.


1990s

Rex Black BS ’90 has completed his fourth book, Software Testing Foundation, with three coauthors, to be published in October. In addition, his third book, Effective and Efficient Software Testing, will be published in Japanese by Nikkei BP.

Blake Krikorian BS ’90, co-founder and CEO of Sling Media, was named one of Business 2.0’s 50 People Who Matter Now for “enabling people to remotely watch programming streamed from their home TVs.”

Michael Morhaime BS ’90, co-founder and president of Blizzard Entertainment, was named one of Business 2.0’s 50 People Who Matter Now for creating the gaming phenomenon, World of Warcraft.

Fabio Marino MS ’91 has joined Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP as a partner in its Silicon Valley office.

Evelyn Cortez-Davis BS ’92 published her book, December Sky: Beyond My Undocumented Life.

Ron Faibish BS ’93, MS ’97, PhD ’01 has been named director of the Purdue University-Calumet Water Institute.

Raymond J. Toal PhD ’93 received the 2006 Loyola Marymount University President’s Fritz B. Burns Distinguished Teaching Award. Toal, a professor of computer science, has been teaching at Loyola Marymount since 1986.

Winn Hong BS ’93, MS ’96 has been promoted to the position of vice president, corporate development at ORFID Corporation.

Michael Jensen PhD ’94 has been named chairman of the department of electrical and computer engineering at Brigham Young University. He holds the Newman and Zeneth Ward Endowed Chair in Electrical Engineering.

Christopher Cadou PhD ’96 has received tenure and a promotion to associate professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Maryland.

Mason Peck MS ’99, PhD ’01, an assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Cornell University, received one of only 11 grants given this year by the NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts.


2000s
Tzung (John) Hsiai PhD ’01 has been appointed to the Robert G. and Mary G. Lane Early Career Chair in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at USC.

Damien Phelan Stolarz BS ’03 just finished his third book on emerging technology, Videoblogging and Podcasting.

Sameer Sharma BS ’04 and Christine Myers BA ’04 (anthropology) are engaged and are planning a summer 2007 wedding.
