Building for the Future: Construction in the UCLA Engineering Complex

Engineering IB Replacement Building
Engineering IB Replacement Building

Slated for completion near the end of 2006, the School's new building will hold nearly 40 state-of-the-art research laboratories, and provide much-needed space for faculty and graduate students.

The departments of Bioengineering and Materials Science will be located in the new facility, and both departments will have common labs available to their faculty and students. The implementation of shared labs is a major step toward supporting an entirely new way of team-oriented research in the departments.

Materials science will have laboratories for soft materials and hard materials, while bioengineering faculty will share cell tissue and culture and biomaterials process labs.

Center for Embedded Networked Sensing Building
CENS Buildout

Scheduled to be completed by summer, the new Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (CENS) facility will house CENS’ educational staff and provide 55 workstations for affiliated graduate students.

The building also will serve as a test bed for ongoing CENS research, with sensor systems deployed throughout the area. It will hold seven research engineering stations, as well as a shared dry lab for experiments.
