UCLA AIChE to host Western
Regional Conference on April 12
UCLA AIChE, the student chapter
of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, will host the
AIChE 2008 Western Regional Conference on Saturday, April 12,
2008 on the UCLA campus.
The all-day conference will feature
speakers from industry, a best research paper competition, tours
of UCLA Engineering labs and the Chem-E-Car competition.
“UCLA AIChE is excited to
host this year's Western Regional Conference,” said Marie
Sutton, a senior and internal vice president of UCLA AIChE.
“It will be a great opportunity for chemical engineering
students from throughout California to network with one another
and with industry representatives. We will get to display UCLA's
wonderful facilities and graduate program through lab tours,
as well as offer fun engineering events such as the best paper
and Chem-E-Car competitions.”
The Chem-E-Car competition pits
school-sponsored cars, powered by chemical reactions, against
each other. They must carry a specific load, then must stop
as close to a designated spot after a certain distance. The
top three finishers are eligible to compete at the 2008 AIChE
national meeting, which is being held in Philadelphia in June.
Schools participating in the conference
include: UC Davis, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara,
University of Nevada, Reno, UC Riverside, San Jose State University,
Cal Poly Pomona and UC Berkeley.
