The UCLA Henry Samueli School of
Engineering and Applied Science has been redefining excellence
in education, research and community outreach since it was established
in 1945. Today, the School ranks among the top 10 engineering
schools in public universities nationwide.
The School boasts exceptional faculty and students,
groundbreaking research, and dynamic educational programs and
opportunities. The faculty includes 15 members of the National
Academy of Engineering, and among other accomplishments, UCLA
is home to the first node of the Internet and the first reverse-osmosis
membrane.
Since 2001, the School has been awarded five multimillion-dollar
interdisciplinary research centers, funded by distinguished national
and professional agencies. These centers will be the source of
exciting new discoveries in space exploration, wireless sensor
systems, nanomanufacturing and defense technologies.
The School offers 28 academic and professional
degree programs, including an interdepartmental graduate degree
program in biomedical engineering. Current research programs focus
on such areas as biomedical informatics, the twenty-first century
Internet, nano- and microelectromechanical systems, earthquake
engineering, neuroengineering, metabolic engineering, information
technologies and alternative energy solutions.
