UCLA Engineering School's Commencement to Feature Keynote Address by Carly Fiorina, Chairman and CEO of HP

The UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science announced today that Carly Fiorina, chairman and chief executive officer of HP, will be this year's keynote speaker for commencement on Saturday, June 19, 2004.

"We are extremely excited to have someone of Carly Fiorina's caliber join us for the 2004 commencement ceremony," said Vijay K. Dhir, dean of the Engineering School. "HP has long been an exemplary partner in fulfilling the School's mission of education, research and public service. Ms. Fiorina's participation in our commencement is a wonderful affirmation of this relationship."

HP is a leading global provider of computing and imaging solutions and services. Fiorina joined HP in July 1999, and led HP's merger with Compaq, which was completed in May 2002. Prior to joining HP, Fiorina spent nearly 20 years at AT&T and Lucent Technologies, where she held a number of senior leadership positions.

Fiorina holds a bachelor's degree in medieval history and philosophy from Stanford University; a master's degree in business administration from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland at College Park, Md.; and a master of science degree from MIT's Sloan School. In July 2001, she was named an Honorary Fellow of the London Business School. Fiorina's corporate citizenship efforts were honored with the 2003 Appeal of Conscience Award and the 2003 Concern Worldwide "Seeds of Hope" Award.

HP has been a steady supporter of the UCLA Engineering School's student enrichment and outreach efforts, and a valuable partner in bringing technology into the classroom. UCLA and HP have had a successful research collaboration in the area of molecular electronics, which has resulted in several patents and awards.
