On December 17, 2003 the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science marked an important milestone in its plan to replace the School's Engineering I building with a modern, state-of-the-art facility capable of better supporting the School's mission of teaching, research and service. Construction began with the controlled demolition of the Engineering 1 building's east wing, called Unit 1B, Its replacement is scheduled to be completed by March 2006.
