DEAN'S WELCOME
Welcome to the 2008 UCLA Engineering Technology Forum.
We have developed a terrific program, headlined by Raymond L. Orbach, Under Secretary for Science at the U.S. Department of Energy. As the keynote speaker, Dr. Orbach will deliver the first L.M.K. Boelter Distinguished Lecture, “Transformational Research and our Energy Future.”
We are delighted that Dr. Orbach, the former chancellor of UC Riverside and former UCLA Provost and Physics Department faculty member, is returning to campus to speak on an issue so very critical to the future of this country.
The UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science has a great tradition of excellence in engineering. This year's forum showcases our continuing commitment to working on complex problems with innovative ideas and solutions.
This year's program includes faculty presenters who are making advances in healthcare and cancer research, alternative and sustainable energy, water resource management, as well as computer security, nanotechnology and interdisciplinary research across several fields. The forum will also feature a student poster competition, department research reviews, and industry awards.
I hope you will join us at the 2008 UCLA Engineering Technology Forum.
Sincerely,
Vijay K. Dhir
Dean
